About Janay

Philosophy of Care

I believe healing is always possible—even when a cure may not be. My approach to care is deeply holistic, grounded in the understanding that our physical, emotional, social, and spiritual lives are all connected. Whether you're navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, eco-anxiety, or simply feeling overwhelmed, I’m here to walk with you on your healing journey.

I offer integrative psychiatric care that blends the best of conventional medicine with evidence-based complementary therapies. This includes personalized treatment plans that may incorporate medication, botanicals, supplements, mind-body skills, and lifestyle changes. I also offer innovative modalities like auricular acupuncture, sound and music healing, Reiki and energy work, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy to support deep transformation and emotional release.

As a classically trained musician, I’ve been playing the cello and piano for over 35 years, and music has always been one of my most intuitive healing tools. In sessions—particularly ketamine-assisted psychotherapy—I often incorporate personalized soundscapes using a combination of crystal bowls, bells, chimes, and stringed instruments to support emotional regulation, energetic flow, and inner journeying. I tailor the music experience to each individual, attuning to the emotional tone and inner landscape of the session. Music reaches where words cannot—and I’ve seen it help patients process grief, connect with joy, and feel seen in a way that transcends language.

I am also a certified Level 2 Reiki practitioner, and I weave Reiki and intuitive energy healing into sessions when desired, offering gentle energetic support for grounding, clarity, and integration. Many clients find this integrative approach—where sound, energy, presence, and medicine meet—to be uniquely powerful and restorative.

My care philosophy is rooted in feminism, social justice, and trauma-informed practice, and it is deeply influenced by an understanding of climate change and sustainability. Having lived in the desert Southwest, I’ve witnessed firsthand the emotional and psychological impact of a rapidly changing climate. I recognize that environmental stressors can contribute to anxiety, grief, and disconnection, and I incorporate this awareness into both treatment planning and personal practice.

Because of this, climate awareness and sustainability are core to how I practice each day. From the way I structure appointments, to the products I use, to the treatment recommendations I make, I seek to align with values that support both personal and planetary healing. I consider how choices—like nutrition, movement, rest, and connection to nature—can support the nervous system and reflect a more sustainable relationship with the world around us.

My Experience

With over 20 years of experience in healthcare, I am dual board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Arizona and completed the Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. My advanced training includes: Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), MDMA-Assisted Therapy (MAPS), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mind-Body Medicine, Reiki, and Auricular Acupuncture. I’ve worked in a wide range of settings—from hospitals and community mental health centers to rural communities in Mexico—and I bring that depth of experience to every session.

In addition to my clinical work, I serve as an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Arizona College of Nursing, where I teach about psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and stay up-to-date on the latest evidence-based treatments.

Why I Do This Work

I grew up in a small farming community in southern Arizona. From a young age, I understood that healing is inseparable from our connection to the land, our relationships, and the systems we live in. I’ve also personally experienced the challenges of burnout, grief, and navigating childhood adversity. These lived experiences have shaped my dedication to helping others build resilience, reconnect with themselves, and find meaningful paths forward.

Outside of work, I love being in nature, growing plants, and making music. I play the cello, piano, and am learning the ukulele (because it’s a lot easier to carry around!).

It’s an honor to support patients in rediscovering balance, meaning, and hope. I look forward to working with you.
